Jenn has been helping moms to enjoy healthier pregnancies and births through education and hands on support since she founded Knitted in the Womb in 2001. As she anticipated the birth of her first child with a certain amount of fear, she certainly never imagined that she would have ended up here! So how did it happen? After the birth of her first child she became very hooked on the subject of childbirth. Her labor was over 30 hours long, but the preparation she and her husband had for it, having taken The Bradley Method® childbirth classes, made it a challenge that they were able to tackle together. Jenn believes that the techniques that they learned and the confidence that they gained helped them to not only avoid many “minor” interventions like a Pitocin drip to speed up a slow labor, but ultimately even a cesarean section when labor “stalled” at 9 cms for over 6 hours.
Jenn’s passion to learn more about the topic and learn how to help other women/couples has only increased in the past few years and with the births of her next five children. In 2001 and 2002 Jenn became a doula and certified childbirth education instructor following intensive training with two nationally recognized childbirth organizations. To further her training over the years, Jenn has added:
- Child Passenger Safety training
- Spinning Babies® to better understand how the baby’s position in the womb affects labor
- Childbirth Interntional Post Partum Doula training
- Hypno Babies doula training
Jenn brings the techniques she has learned to pregnant moms to improve their chances of an easier birth. She has also been a childbirth educator trainer at trainings across the United States.
Jenn was a founding member of EmPoWeReD Birth in 2009; and a founding member and a member of the Board of Directors of Informed Beginnings. Informed Beginnings, or InfoBe, is a co-operative childbirth education organization. This organization provides certification for childbirth educators, and as a co-operative, it is owned by its educator members. Informed Beginnings officially incorporated in late 2011.
Jenn’s philosophy on childbirth is influenced by her faith in God, and trust in His design (see “Why Christian Childbirth Classes”). She understands that humans are fallen creatures and thus sometimes problems will arise, but believes that the female body is designed to birth without interference in the majority of cases. While her faith does shape her philosophy, it does not stop her from enjoying serving women and couples with a wide variety of philosophical backgrounds. Jenn feels blessed to have met a broad variety of people through her childbirth career, and eagerly anticipates continuing to meet more.
She is a graduate of Lafayette College, and resides with her family in Allentown, PA. Call or text 610-844-6223 to set up a consultation or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
